Galveston County is located on the Texas Gulf Coast in the southeastern part of the state. The county is bounded on the northeast by Galveston Bay and on the northwest by Clear Creek and Clear Lake. The county has a total area of 873 square miles. Its county seat is the City of Galveston. League City is the largest city in Galveston County.

Galveston County’s Business Incentives

• Foreign Trade Zone
Galveston County has two Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ); one at the Port of Galveston and one at the Port of Texas City. Both ports are secured specialized areas, which are considered outside the customs territory of the United States. Foreign and domestic merchandise may be admitted without formal customs entry for the payment of government excise tax.

• Freeport Tax Exemption
Several jurisdictions in Galveston County have chosen to allow the Freeport Tax Exemption to qualifying businesses. By definition, Freeport goods are inventories acquired or brought into the state by business and held for no more than 175 days before being shipped out of state.

• Property Tax Abatement
The Taxing entities in Galveston County have developed and implemented a value-added tax abatement program and have passed qualifying guidelines pertaining to the companies under consideration for such tax abatement. Value-added improvements to real property may qualify for tax abatement in Galveston County. No tax abatement will exceed the maximum allowed by state law, presently 100% for 10 years. Each abatement is determined on the individual merits of the project under consideration as it relates to the city or county's taxing entity.

In order to qualify for abatement consideration, projects must be expected to have an increase appraised ad valorem value of the minimum amounts set forth by each of the following taxing entities:
