Community colleges and technical schools in the region and members of Bay Area Houston are:
- College of the Mainland. This is a comprehensive community college offering two-year degrees and one-year certificates in workforce development programs. The college works with businesses and industry to develop courses and programs to enhance or apply Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Grants. www.com.edu
- ITT Technical Institute. The programs offered are Computer Drafting & Design, Computer & Electronics Engineering Technology, Information Technology: Computer Network Systems & Multimedia & Software Applications and Programming & Web Development. www.itt-tech.edu
- San Jacinto College District. The College offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, along with various certificate programs. SJC is active in working with local industry in applying Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Grants. www.sjcd.edu
- Texas Chiropractic College. TCC offers the Doctor of Chiropractic as well as the Bachelor of Science in Human Biology degrees. The school is recognized as a national Center of Excellence in health care education. www.txchiro.edu

- Texas A&M at Galveston. TAMUG is the state’s special purpose marine and maritime institution supporting the science and technology for the maritime industry. www.tamug.edu
- University of Houston. UH serves 34,400 students in 13 colleges offering 281 undergraduate to doctoral- level and professional degrees. UH faculty break new ground with $72 million in research grants annually in fields ranging from materials science and engineering to biomedical sciences and education. www.uh.edu
- University of Houston – Clear Lake. UHCL is an upper level institution serving more than 7,700 students. In FY 2002, UHCL received $8 million in research grants. The Schools of Business and Public Administration, Education, Human Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Computer Engineering offer courses leading to bachelor’s degrees in more than 30 fields of study and master’s degrees in more than 40 fields of study, including the Institute for Futures Research. www.uhcl.edu
- University of Space Research Association. USRA initially concentrated on the management of LSI (later renamed the Lunar and Planetary Institute) but, armed with its broad charter, the consortium began to explore other ways to serve the university space research community as early as 1970. Today, USRA researchers are involved with university, government and industry scientists and engineers in a broad array of space- and aeronautics-related fields, including astronomy and astrophysics, Earth sciences, microgravity, life sciences, space technology, computer science, and advanced concepts. www.usra.edu
- University of Texas Medical Branch- Galveston. UTMB is a major academic health center dedicated to health science education, patient care, research, and community service. As of September 2002, research grants from all sources totaled $114.4 million. Funding from the National Institutes of Health has more than doubled in less than 10 years. Areas of research strength include neuroscience, pain management and stroke treatment, gastrointestinal health, environmental health and asthma, infectious diseases, vaccine development, cancer, molecular medicine, aging, and diabetes. Total enrollment in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is 2005. The Graduate Medical Education enrollment totals 552 interns, residents and fellows. A technology transfer program helps ensure that discoveries made by UTMB faculty reach the healthcare marketplace for the benefit of patients. www.utmb.edu
