Mayor Turner delivers dynamic speech during BAHEP membership meeting   03/10/2016
A large number of members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership journeyed to the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake on March 10th for a singular purpose — to hear newly-elected Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s vision for the future of the fourth largest city in the nation. They were not disappointed. 
BAHEP asks legislators to support critical funding for storm surge protection studies   03/03/2016
In early March, the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership hosted a meeting attended by local and state elected officials and other decision makers within the region. The purpose of the meeting was to obtain critical support for legislative funding to further ongoing studies that will determine the optimal solution for a storm surge protection system for the upper Texas Gulf Coast.
BAHEP plays significant role in successful grant application to replace damaged control tower at Ellington Airport in Houston   02/25/2016
Dan Seal, director of Special Initiatives for the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, and BAHEP Marketing Manager Jimmy Spence met with representatives from the Houston Airport System (HAS), Ellington Field Military Operations and other stakeholders, including Rep. Dennis Paul (TX House District 129),  over several weeks in 2015 to develop an application for the DEAAG Program for Ellington Airport.

Smith honored for outstanding leadership during BAHEP’s annual Quasar Award Banquet   01/29/2016
BAHEP honored Dr. Greg Smith, superintendent of Clear Creek Independent School District since 2008, on Jan. 29th with its 2016 Quasar Award presented at the organization’s much anticipated annual banquet held at South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center.

The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership has been working with the East Harris County Manufacturers Association and several other companies and organizations on a career action platform (CAP) for the petrochemical industry.  
Judges Emmett and Henry detail economic outlook for Harris and Galveston counties during BAHEP membership meeting   10/14/2015
During the October 14, 2015, general membership meeting of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, attendees learned from Galveston County Judge Mark Henry and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett that the economic state of each county is as fine as the beautiful fall weather that everyone was enjoying the day of the event at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, Texas.

U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (TX-36), a long-time dentist from Woodville, Texas, was first elected to Congress last November and took office in January.  Babin spoke in late August to members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.
People helping people is the bottom line in economic development   8/27/2015
Economic development.  Jobs, good schools and health care, availability of quality food and merchandise, and reliable infrastructure are all dependent upon sound economic development principles.  Sometimes the issues and the politics get interwoven and very complicated. The bottom line is not complicated, however. It’s just people helping people to live the best lives possible.

BAHEP President Bob Mitchell recently gave the organization’s endorsement for a high-speed bullet train to provide service between Houston and Dallas.

Citizens for Space Exploration travelers complete record-breaking number of congressional visits   05/28/2015
376/95/23/2. Those numbers don’t have much significance in their stand-alone configuration. However, when 95 travelers from 23 states make 376 scheduled congressional office visits over just 2 days, those numbers become rather amazing. 
Gilmer’s State of the Economy luncheon draws large BAHEP attendance   03/26/2015
Dr. Robert W. (Bill) Gilmer delivered a very informative message in late March about Houston’s economy, particularly how the price of oil affects Houston’s upstream companies on its west side and the downstream industry on its east side, before a large mid-day gathering of members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.
Legislators take fact-finding tour of the Bay Area Houston/Galveston region   03/25/2015
Five area legislators hosted a fact-finding tour of the region from March 5-7, 2015. Sens. Larry Taylor and Sylvia Garcia and Reps. Greg Bonnen, M.D., Dennis Paul, and Wayne Faircloth were part of the group that included state senators, representatives, their chiefs of staff, legislative aides and guests.

The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership presented Dr. Bill Merrell its prestigious 2015 Quasar Award for Exceptional Leadership in Economic Development during its 22nd annual Quasar Award Banquet on Friday, Jan.16, 2015, at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center.  
Citizens for Space Exploration state their case on Capitol Hill for 23rd consecutive year   05/26/2014
Much has changed in Congress over the past 23 years, but each May legislators on Capitol Hill can count on at least one constant – the annual visit by the Citizens for Space Exploration. From May 20-22, 2014, 104 travelers conducted 354 congressional visits to advance support for human space exploration.
Shale-led manufacturing renaissance to add millions in tax contributions to coffers of Bay Area Houston cities   05/22/2014
Local manufacturing has been experiencing a resurgence lately, and much of the activity is due to new technologies in the exploration and extraction of gas and oil that, until recently, have been locked in tight shale rock formations thousands of feet below the earth’s surface making them too uneconomical to mine.

BAHEP supports reauthorization of Ex-Im Bank of the United States   04/24/2014
As a government agency, the Export-Import Bank of the United States is subject to reauthorization. Its current authorization expires Sept. 30, 2014. Many major business organizations support a long-term reauthorization for the Ex-Im Bank. The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership joins them in support for this important initiative.
Maritime industry seeks good solid folks for rewarding careers   04/24/2014
Over the past several months, the Education and Workforce Development Committee of Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership has hosted leaders from regional industry sectors to participate in an informal panel discussion on workforce dynamics and trends.
