EHCMA presents awards to Mitchell, Bechtel for work on regional flood protection 11/17/2017

On Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, during a meeting of the International Maritime Advisory Committee of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, Craig Beskid, executive director of the East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA), presented awards to BAHEP President Bob Mitchell and Mayor Michel Bechtel, City of Morgan’s Point, who have both worked tirelessly in support of a coastal spine system. The awards were presented "in recognition and appreciation of outstanding representation of the industry and the community for regional flood protection.”

Each year for the past 26 years, the Citizens for Space Exploration groups from across America have gathered on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., to hold sit-down visits with members of Congress to help advance support for human space exploration. BAHEP also participated in Space Day at the Capitol in Austin, Texas, to educate law makers about the impact of the aerospace industry in Texas.

A few of the region’s educational institutions have seen or are about to experience a change in leadership. This "changing of the guard” offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the skills that made these leaders so successful.

Warmly receptive. Those two words aptly describe the atmosphere in the Atlantis Ballroom of the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake on an additionally warm June afternoon when Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner presented an update on the City of Houston to a sizeable luncheon gathering of the members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.

Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Douglas H. Owens is a passionate man who quietly, but eloquently, spoke of his passion during a recent presentation to the Education and Workforce Development Committee of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.

Dr. Warren Nichols was named College of the Mainland’s president on Jan. 30, 2017. Partnering with the community, staff and students is a priority, Nichols said. As part of this initiative, Nichols paid a get acquainted visit to the Education and Workforce Development Committee of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership in late April.

Ted C. Jones, Ph.D., talks – a lot. In his position as the chief economist, senior vice president of Stewart Title Guaranty Company, Jones typically gives more than 150 presentations on real estate and the economic outlook each year.

Port Houston is a quiet giant according to Thomas J. Heidt, the port’s chief operating officer. He should know. Heidt has worked at the port for 35 years under seven different port executive directors.

A large number of members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership journeyed to the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake on March 10th for a singular purpose — to hear newly-elected Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s vision for the future of the fourth largest city in the nation. They were not disappointed.

In early March, the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership hosted a meeting attended by local and state elected officials and other decision makers within the region. The purpose of the meeting was to obtain critical support for legislative funding to further ongoing studies that will determine the optimal solution for a storm surge protection system for the upper Texas Gulf Coast.

Economic development. Jobs, good schools and health care, availability of quality food and merchandise, and reliable infrastructure are all dependent upon sound economic development principles. Sometimes the issues and the politics get interwoven and very complicated. The bottom line is not complicated, however. It’s just people helping people to live the best lives possible.
