On Sept. 15, just two days after the three-year anniversary of Hurricane Ike’s landfall in Texas, the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District (GCCPRD) and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) presented a day-long workshop and symposium on the current efforts and prospective solutions to alleviate storm surge in Galveston Bay and the upper Texas Gulf Coast. The board of directors of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership has approved the organization’s 2012 - 2016 Strategic Plan, which will serve to guide BAHEP through the next five years.
Much has been said about the very difficult struggle currently facing NASA. The broadcast and print media have been covering news related to the future of NASA and human space exploration for many months. As has been widely reported, the White House effectively eliminated NASA’s human spaceflight program from the 2011 federal budget that was presented to Congress on Feb. 1, 2010.
The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, in collaboration with its aerospace partners and other regional economic development organizations, is working diligently to reinstate adequate funding to NASA for its human spaceflight program. The president can present the budget, but Congress has to approve it. It is imperative that Congress knows how America stands on this issue.
It is also important that the citizens of Bay Area Houston, as well as the rest of the nation, speak with one voice when expressing their concerns to their congressional representatives. The following information has been made available for that purpose.
