Purpose of SATOP
SATOP is a NASA-funded program designed to transfer the knowledge and technology of the U.S. Space Program to small businesses in order to create new jobs, new products, and stimulate the economy, at no cost to them.
Who can apply?
SATOP is available to any U.S.-based small business or manufacturer (under 500 employees).
How does it work?
You submit a qualified Request for Technical Assistance (RTA), and SATOP works to find an Alliance Partner engineer with the appropriate expertise and availability to develop a solution. The Alliance Partner engineer will provide the small business up to 40 hours of free assistance by phone or e-mail.
What kind of requests can SATOP accept?
Requests should be clearly defined and focused on a specific technical issue within one project including, but not limited to, one of the following engineering disciplines:
• Mechanical • Electrical • Electronics
• Manufacturing • Chemical • Materials
• Environmental • Industrial • Structural
(SATOP will not provide software, internet, or information technology solutions.)
The project must appear solvable within the 40-hour limit. Please be prepared to provide drawings, prototypes, or samples as needed, and available to communicate with the Alliance Partner engineer.
